This blog sets out a thread of posts we set out on our social media pages on Twitter and Facebook. The idea for the posts came about after we attended one of the The Great Get Together events held in East Kilbride. The event inspired us to say a big Thank You to people in the community.

Introduction

Every day next week we will be posting a photo of a rose from our garden & dedicating it to groups of people within the community. 7 roses for 7 groups. A thank you to all those people who help support the community, keep us safe, & give time to others.    #7days7roses

Day 1

Day 1 – Rose ‘abundance’ – for all the 1st Responders – the Police, the Fire Service, the Ambulance crews & Paramedics. An abundance of thanks to you for being there for the community at times of great need. Thank you. #7days7roses

Day 2

Day 2 – Rose ‘Evelyn’ – for all the Hospital & Hospice staff – the nurses, doctors, physios, OTs, social workers, cleaners, support staff. From midwifery to palliative care. A community caring for a community. Thank you for your skills, empathy & compassion. #7days7roses

Day 3

Day 3 – Rose ‘Somme 100’ – for the Armed Forces. Army, Navy, RAF, & security services. We sleep peacefully because you stand ready. You stand ready, not because you hate what is in front of you, but because you love what is behind you. Family & Community. Thank you. #7days7roses

Day 4

Day 4 – Rose ‘Margaret’ – for Volunteers. You give up the most valuable asset anyone has – time! You do so without financial reward. Your altruism & time sacrifice not only benefits the people you support, but also the wider community. Thank you for everything you do. #7days7roses

Day 5

Day 5 – Rose ‘Arthur Bell’ – for Carers. Those who care for the young, the old, the dying, the sick, the injured, the less able, family members, neighbours, strangers. We know you carry a huge responsibility. It can weigh heavy. You deserve a huge thank you. #7days7roses

Day 6

Day 6 – Rose ‘Ballerina’ – for the Teachers. At schools, colleges, universities, & places of learning. You inspire others. Your gift of knowledge & your ability to implant the desire to seek out more learning are like ripples in a pond that go on in perpetuity. Thank you. #7days7roses

Day 7

Day 7 – Rose [? a gift] – for the Workers in the community. Refuse collectors, council ground maintenance teams, bus drivers, farmers, shop staff, janitors, & all those without whose work the community would grind to a halt. You don’t get thanked enough. Thank you. #7days7roses
